Obama Declares US Forces Killed Osama Bin Laden, Pakistani Official Confirms
The United States President Barack Obama has announced that Al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden was killed by US forces after he was found hiding in a compound in Pakistan.
"Tonight, I can report to the American people and to the world that the United States has conducted an operation that killed Osama bin Laden, the leader of Al Qaeda," Obama said in a televised speech.
Also, according to France Press, Pakistani intelligence official who spoke on the case of anonymity confirmed that head of Al Qaeda Osama Bin Laden was killed during a very sensitive intelligence operation.
"The United States launched a targeted operation against that compound in Abbottabad, in Pakistan. A small team of Americans carried out the operation with extraordinary courage and capability. No Americans were harmed. They took care to avoid civilian casualties. After a firefight, they killed Osama bin Laden, and took custody of his body," he added. Also, after announcing the death of Osama bin Laden during a US operation, the US State Department has issued a world-wide travel alert for Americans, warning them of "enhanced potential for anti-American violence," Reuters reported.
"Given the uncertainty and volatility of the current situation, US citizens in areas where events could cause anti-American violence are strongly urged to limit their travel outside of their homes and hotels and avoid mass gatherings and demonstrations," a statement by the State Department said.
This is while analysts and military experts believe that the United States had delayed the killing of bin Laden to continue the presence of US-led forces in war-torn Afghanistan.
The announcement of bin Laden's death comes almost ten years after the September 11 attacks on the United States.
