Russian President Dmitry Medvedev denounced the unilateral sanctions imposed against the Russian firms, which are cooperating with Iranian companies.

According to IRNA news agency, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson, Alexander Lukashevich, said President Medvedev expressed his discontent saying, "Washington's unjust and unilateral move to cause trouble for Russian companies that have contracts with Iranian firms on a series of mutual peaceful nuclear cooperation".

The Russian president's remarks came in his meeting with US Vice President, Joe Biden, where the latter is in Russia for an attempt to boost Russian-US relations.

Furthermore, Spokesperson Lukashevich further added that Medvedev said, "Russian firms abide by the avowed rules and principles set forth by the international Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in their peaceful nuclear cooperation with Iran".

The Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson did not state the names of the Russian firms imposed to sanctions, but pointed out that his country's president has denounced the US sanctions imposed against Tehran over its peaceful nuclear program.

Medvedev noted the aforementioned sanctions as "illegitimate" and "unacceptable".
