6.6 Quake Jolts W. #Japan, No #Tsunami Warning

An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 6.6 shook western Japan Friday, the Japan Meteorological Agency said, adding that a tsunami warning was not issued.

There were no immediate reports of injuries or major damage and no irregularities at nuclear plants, but media said roughly 40,000 households were at one point without power.

Gravestones were toppled, bottles fell off store shelves and smashed, and at least one building collapsed.

The epicenter of the earthquake was in Tottori prefecture at a depth of 10 km, the agency said.

The quake was followed by a series of weaker aftershocks.
