Some 100 Athletes Evacuated as Fire Blazes Rio Olympic Village Building

A fire erupted at the Olympic Village in Brazil’s Rio de Janeiro, prompting an evacuation of about 100 athletes.

The fire started in the underground car park in one of the Olympic Village buildings with smoke rising up through Building 23.

It was confined to the car park and was extinguished by the fire brigade, after which people were allowed back in the building.

Brazil’s Rio de Janeiro will host the 2016 Summer Olympic Games on August 5-21.
