DAMASCUS-The political leader of the Hamas Islamic resistance movement warned Sunday that the Palestinian resistance would consider "other choices" if the 'Israeli' occupation regime breaks the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.

During a meeting with leaders of Palestinian factions in Syria, Khaled Mashaal told reporters that the de-escalation of the situation in Gaza will continue as long as the 'Israeli' forces are "abiding" by the truce.

Meshaal made his comment to reporters Sunday shortly before a meeting of a committee that is to discuss the rift between Hamas and the rival Fatah group of Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas.

Mashaal says the meeting in Syria will focus on the need to start a comprehensive national dialogue to handle Palestinians' divisions.

A six-month truce between the 'Israeli' regime and Palestinian resistance organizations came to effect Thursday.

Khaled stressed that the ceasefire was announced in return of 'Israel' lifting the blockade on the strip. He added that the truce was based upon Palestinian requirements, not on unsuccessful negotiations.

The Hamas leader also praised the move of Mahmoud Abbas, head of the Palestinian authority, in which he urged all Palestinian factions to sit for dialogue and achieve national unity.

"It is the time to urge upon national dialogue," Meshaal said. He added: "I call upon Abbas to sit on a round table, achieve national unity and overcome factions divisions."

Meshaal said that the move is a right step that should be achieved.
