Serena was killed in a car accident near Turkey-Syria border as she was working on a reportage mission about the strategic Kurdish town of Kobani in Syria near the Turkish border.

She was returning to her hotel from reporting in the Turkish city of Suruç when the car she was traveling in collided with a heavy vehicle. The identity and whereabouts of the truck driver remain unknown, a Press TV report said.

She told Press TV earlier on Friday that the Turkish intelligence agency had accused her of spying probably due to some of the stories she has covered about Turkey's stance on the so-called "Daesh" [ISIL] terrorists in Kobani and its surrounding areas, adding that she feared being arrested.

Shim said she was among the few journalists obtaining stories of militants infiltrating into Syria through the Turkish border, adding that she had received images from militants crossing the Turkish border into Syria in World Food Organization and other NGOs' trucks.

She flatly rejected accusations against her, saying she was "surprised" at this accusation "because I have nothing to hide and I have never done anything aside my job."

Director of Press TV's newsroom, Hamid Reza Emadi, said on Sunday that, "Mrs. Shim...was killed in Turkey and near border with Kobani in a suspected accident."

Shim, an American citizen of Lebanese origin, had covered reports for Press TV in Lebanon, Iraq, and Ukraine.

Moreover, Shim had the experiences of presence in Ukraine's Donetsk protests, Baghdad and border towns of Turkey and Syria and she prepared exclusive and field reports from Turkey-Syria border for Press TV network.

Shim, of Lebanese origin was mother to two, young children.
