Saudi Arabia threatened to block borders with Qatar, both by land and sea, amid the dispute over Doha's links with the Muslim Brotherhood and the Al-Jazeera television network based in Qatar on Thursday.

Saudi Arabia Threatens to Block Neighboring Borders with Qatar

According to a report published by the Huffington Post US-based newspaper, it was said that the threats came during a private meeting between the foreign ministers of the Persian Gulf Cooperation Council states in Saudi Arabia last week prior to announcing the withdrawal of ambassadors from Qatar by Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Bahrain.

Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Saud al-Faisal said that for Saudi Arabia to prevent Qatar from "being punished," it would need to have severe ties with the Brotherhood, close the Al-Jazeera network, and expel the two US think tanks.

While Saudi Arabia is able to easily close its land border with Saudi forces, Qatar does not seem to be taking the threat of a sea blockade seriously.
Saudi Arabia listed the Muslim Brotherhood as a terrorist organization on March 7. Similarly, the UAE followed by labeling the organization on March 8.

Some Arab states accuse Al-Jazeera network of taking sides with the Muslim Brotherhood.
