Turkey Welcomes New Gov’t , STL Not To Be Politicized
Turkey welcomed a vote of confidence the Lebanese government of Prime Minister Najib Mikati won on Thursday.
A statement released by the Turkish Foreign Ministry said "Turkey believes the new Lebanese government will work to protect the peace, security and stability of Lebanon and provide prosperity and happiness for the Lebanese people."
The statement added that "Turkey will continue to contribute to efforts to restore the country and protect Lebanon's unity, peace and stability."
The ministry's spokesman Selcuk Unal called, in a press conference, all parties in Lebanon "to act calmly and responsibly at a time when Lebanon and the region are going through difficult days."
Considering that " the country is entering a new phase after the formal submission of the Special Tribunal for Lebanon (STL) criminal charges in the case of Prime Minister Rafik Hariri assassination, the spokesman assured that " the STL should not be politicized and that it must continue its work in the legal framework, away from harming its independence and credibility."
