Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council Ali Shamkhani stressed that Iran's advisory presence in Iraq and Syria is upon a demand from the legal governments of these countries and is aimed at fighting terrorism.

Shamkhani: Iran Present In Iraq, Syria upon the Countries’ Requests

Iran's support for Iraq and Syria played a major role in preventing spread of Daesh [the Arabic acronym for terrorist ‘ISIS/ISIL' group] and the US and its allies are angry for this, Shamkhani added.

Relatively, he noted that the US opposition to Iraq's Popular Mobilization Forces [Hashd al-Sha'abi] is also because of their role in fighting terrorism.

In the same context, Shamkhani commented on US Secretary of State Michael Pompeo's anti-Iranian remarks in which he accused Iran of supporting terrorism, saying that the Palestinian and Lebanese' resistance groups are defending the people against occupying Zionist regime forces.

Shamkhani referred to Pompeo's call for the release of US spies from Iran's jails as saying that many Iranian citizens are in the US jails for undocumented reasons.

The Iranian official further pointed to the International Atomic Energy Agency [IAEA]'s confirmation of peaceful nature of Iran's nuclear program and said that Iran will never re-negotiate the nuclear issue.

Earlier on Monday, Pompeo said that the US would exert unprecedented pressures on Iran, including the toughest sanctions ever, if Tehran refused to revise its policies. Pompeo then put forward twelve conditions for concluding a new deal on the Iranian nuclear program.
