Speaker of the Lebanese Parliament Nabih Berri confirmed that the alliance with Hezbollah in the coming parliamentary elections is natural.

Lebanese Parliament Speaker Berri: Sayyed Nasrallah and I Are One Person in Two Bodies

In an interview with the Lebanese newspaper al-Itihad, with its first issue published today [October 23, 2017], Berri said in response to a question about his alliance with Hezbollah: "It is natural that we be in the same alliance with each other, we are allied in all circles; and where we disagree, we will not argue."

"Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah and I share the same beliefs and the same views, and there is nothing in the universe that can equate to the power that emerges when persons share the same beliefs or thoughts."

"Sayyed Hassan and I are one person in two different bodies; and that's what everyone should know," Speaker Berri said, asserting that "those who consult people share their understanding. So is there a partnership that is more important than this partnership?"

In a related context, the Lebanese Parliament Speaker stressed that "the election will definitely take place this time. I have never been convinced with the extension [of the current Lebanese Parliament] in the first place... but I came to the conclusion that the election's postponement is far better than allowing the logic of extremism and Daesh [Arabic acronym for ‘ISIS' / ‘ISIL'] to triumph."

On the issue of disarming Hezbollah, Speaker Berri explained: "Possession of fire arms without a license is prohibited by law, but when ‘Israel' attacks or invades, weapons must be distributed to resist it in accordance with the supreme interest of the state."

"Once, Prime Minister Siniora demanded the Resistance's disarming. I told him that when we [Lebanon] become stronger than ‘Israel', you ask for disarmament."

In the interview, the Lebanese Speaker tackled the Syrian refugee crisis that is engulfing Lebanon, as well as the recent victories against the Takfiri threats in the region, saying, "In the past, embracing the Resistance was confined to a certain category; Now that is no longer the case, but this does not mean that there are no shortcomings."
