A meeting held last night brought Hizbullah Secretary General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah and Progressive Socialist Party leader MP Walid Jumblatt together. The meeting was attended by MP Jumblat's son, Timor, MP Akram Shehayeb in addition to the head of Hizbullah Liaison Committee, Hajj Wafik Safa.
The following was issued at the conclusion of the meeting:
Local and regional developments were reviewed, particularly "Israeli" threats to Lebanon and the region, as well as the joint US-"Israeli" exercises.
The conferees stopped at the "Israeli" dangers threatening Aqsa mosque, amid international indifference.
With regard to the Syrian-Saudi Arabian summit, both sides met at this great meeting's positivism, the importance of such pan-Arab openness, and the need to consolidate a popularized state to overcome the crises experienced in our Islamic and Arabic Ummah (nation) and any country of their countries. From here springs the welcome to any initiative aimed at forming the Lebanese government, most recent of which is the Syrian-Saudi Arabian joint calls to overcome Lebanese crisis and form a national unity government.
The two sides agreed on the need to overcome obstacles preventing the speedy creation of the coming government.
Regarding the relationship between the two parties, an evaluation took place of the phase that followed the first meeting between Sayyed Nasrallah and Mr. Jumblatt. Mutual visits by delegations of religious scholars and their results were reviewed, together with the good impact that had on the relationships among supporters of the two parties in particular, and the relationship between members of both honorable confessions in general.
The meeting underlined the necessity to move forward in any effort that consolidates the atmosphere of reconciliation.
The meeting apprised itself of the efforts the Joint Committee carried out so far between the two sides and both sides agreed on the need to fulfill the remainder of these planned efforts as soon as possible.
The two sides agreed to keep open and unbroken communication channels as well as continuous in order to achieve the joint objectives.
