The Lebanese President Michel Suleiman held a meeting the day before yesterday with his French counterpart Nicolas Sarkozy at the United Nations on the sidelines of the General Assembly meetings of the United Nations. The Foreign Affairs Minister of France Bernard Kouchner said to "Alakhbar" the meeting between the two Presidents "Was very positive. We are close friends;
President Suleiman also told us that Saad Hariri will begin government formation today. It's good news. We want to help but not interfere; neither do we want to decide the fate of the Lebanese people."
In response to a question about the extent of his country's acceptance of Hizbullah's participation in the next government, he replied: "They already have ministers I know. I have forwarded them an invitation to visit me in France which they accommodated. Let us now start the process." As to the extent of the U.S. administration's acceptance to the presence of representatives from the party in government, the French minister said: "I do not know that. Address your question to the Americans."
