Not only "Israel's" humiliating defeat in the Lebanon war 2006 and its failure to achieve its goals in Gaza led to constant maneuvers on ground, but also "Israeli" army is planning to equip its combat units with sophisticated electronic systems as part of efforts to avoid future failures in the battleground.

The program includes outfitting combat troops with portable digital maps of their operational areas and a three-dimensional (3D) picture of the battlefield.

A government-led inquiry into the 33-day war has found that "Israeli" units in the field were not well directed and were poorly trained for combat, and that they were too often not aware of their tactical situation.
Therefore this costly decision is believed to be mainly a consequence of "Israel's" humiliating defeat in the 2006 war on Lebanon.

In addition, the inquiry criticized commanders for watching the action on their digital screens from their commanding positions rather than leading their men in the field.

The "Israeli" military says all combat units will be equipped with the Digital Army Program, which among other things is designed to prevent friendly fire incidents, by the end of 2010.

Some believe that the introduction of the new digital system fuels the speculation that another conflict is likely between "Israel" and Lebanon following recent tension on the two neighbors' border.

Nearly two weeks ago, "Israel" fired 12 to 15 shells into southern Lebanon after two rockets fired from within the Lebanese border landed in northern "Israel".

According to the "Israeli" media, the experimental versions of the digital system were tested last year during the army's three-week military offensive in the Gaza Strip.
