Hizbullah leader Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah met Tuesday with senior Shiite cleric Sayyed Mohammad Hussein Fadlallah to discuss the latest developments in Lebanon and the region. After a two-hour meeting, Fadlallah said that efforts were being made to break a four-month-old political deadlock and cope with what he described as plans to sow strife among Muslims. "Efforts should be deployed on the Lebanese level in order to avoid escalating political tension," Fadlallah said. The cleric stressed the need to "work on the basis of a political equilibrium, where a certain party gets rid of political stubbornness, paving the way for solutions that prevent foreign parties from placing Lebanon amid a flaming political and security situation." Both clerics stressed the need to protect the Islamic nation and foil all plans aimed at pitting Shiite and Sunni against each other in Lebanon. "Muslim unity is the real supporter of the Lebanese people`s unity, regardless of the current political situation," Fadlallah said.
