Islamabad - Pakistani intellectuals on Tuesday described the Iranian Islamic Revolution as a major event in the history and paid homage to Imam Khomeini for his role in leading the Iranian nation in difficult times.

Talking to IRNA with a reference to the 30th anniversary of the revolution they extended their facilitations to the government and people of Iran.

Mazhar Abbas a senior journalist said that the whole of the Iranian public supported that revolution which is very inspiring for the other oppressed countries of the world.

"I believe that it is one of the unique examples in the history", he said.

"I was at that time in the university and it was really amazing for us as no one thought that any body could topple Shah's regime", he added.

Mazhar Abbas added that when Imam Khomeini landed at Tehran millions of people gathered to receive him. "The beauty of the incident was that Imam Khomeini did not go to Shah's palace but his native town of Qum ", added journalist.

He was of the view that there were some internal differences in the government after the post revolution period yet the revolution has been surviving for the last 30 years.

Mazhar said that there should be more freedom of expression in Iran to point out the weaknesses of the bureaucracy.

"One thing which is highly commendable is that the new Iranian government after the revolution did not change the cultural values of the country", he added. Mazhar said that the Iranian civilization is among the richest civilizations of the world.

He said that even today the leadership of Iran is resisting the American pressure. "Life style of the Iranian leadership is inspiring for oppressed countries and they are setting good examples for the people around the world", he added.

Former Secretary General of Pakistan Foreign Affairs and former Ambassador M. Akram Zaki extended his heartiest facilitation to the people and government of Iran.

He added that the Iranian revolution is one of the important events of the history. "The revolution was so powerful that it had changed the entire course of Iranian history", said Akram Zaki.

Central leader of Jamaat-e-Islami, Pakistan, Liaqat Baloch expressing his views said that the revolution is the outcome of the struggle of Imam Khomeini against the western powers.

He said that Iranian people, despite the western propaganda, has been celebrating the 30th anniversary of the revolution which is a great achievement.

He congratulated the people of Iran and their government for upholding the torch of Imam Khomeini.

Liaqat Baloch said that the path, which was shown by Imam Khomeini for the independence of Palestine and to get back the control of first Qibla, has now become a slogan for the Muslims around the world.
