The Leader of the Islamic Revolution His Eminence Imam Sayyed Ali Khamenei casted his vote for the second round of the 12th parliamentary elections in Iran on Friday morning.

“Run-off parliamentary election is as important as its first round,” Imam Khamenei stated, urging the Iranian nation to participate in this round of the elections as gloriously as its first round.

He further added: “The more votes, the stronger the parliament is, and the stronger the parliament, the more opportunities to work in the country.”

The first round of the 12th parliamentary elections was held on Friday, March 1st. Of the country's 87 million people, more than 61 million were eligible to vote in the polls.

Voters were taking part in the parliamentary elections to choose 290 legislative body members from over 15000 candidates. Elected members will serve for a term of four years in the parliament.

Mohsen Eslami, spokesman of Iran's Election Headquarters, said on Thursday that the polling stations will remain open for 10 hours. He noted that the time may be extended upon the decision of the Interior Ministry.
