Tehran - Iranian parliamentarian Marziyeh Dabbagh gives an insight into the life and leadership of the Founder of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Rouhollah Khomeini.

Press TV: How did you become acquainted with the Founder of the Islamic Revolution, Imam Khomeini?

Dabbagh: I first learned of Imam Khomeini through his historical speeches and political leaflets before the 15 of Khordad Movement (June 5, 1963).

We later met in person during his exile in the Iraqi city of Najaf. I also served as the chief of his household security when the Imam was exiled to Neauphle le Château.

Meeting him substantially helped me cope with my future responsibilities.

Press TV: How can you best describe Imam Khomeini's personality?

Dabbagh: Words cannot do justice when it comes to describing the personality of Imam Khomeini. Apart from his spirituality and divine insight, the late Imam was a true political leader.

He had a special way of dealing with the masses, with families, with servants, with children. He always championed justice and human rights, while opposing foreign hegemony and despotism.

He devoted most of his social and political life to the welfare of the Iranian nation. I am sure that his legacy will live on for years to come.

Press TV: What do you think is the main difference between the 1979 Islamic Revolution of Iran and other historic revolutions such as those in Russia and France?

Dabbagh: The major role of Islam and the Iranian people's strong commitment have made the Islamic revolution truly exceptional, when compared to revolutions in France, China, Russia, Iraq and other world movements.

In other words, the significance of Islamic values, Iranian unity, a strong will for change, and a powerful leadership, helped the Islamic Revolution come into effect in 1979.

It was a time when Iranians closed ranks to defend their rights against foreign hegemony

In essence, the Islamic Revolution was far more comprehensive than any other revolution that has taken place in the world.

Press TV: What was the reason behind the immense popularity of Imam Khomeini in Iran?

Dabbagh: Imam Khomeini was unpretentious in the true sense of the word. He conquered people's hearts and minds by living an ascetic life, without the glamour of a political leader. He was a true man of the people who understood the constraints of social life.

Even 20 years after his demise, he is remembered with great reverence for his contributions to the Islamic Revolution.

Press TV: What kind of a husband and father was Imam Khomeini?

Dabbagh: Imam was very close with his wife and treated her with great consideration and kindness. He respected her point of view in every single decision and helped her maintain the household.

A chance to become acquainted with Imam Khomeini's persona would be a privilege for any human.
