Speaker Nabih Berri addressed the parliament in Nejmeh Square on Saturday, in the presence of United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and expressed concern about the threat posed by "Israel's" actions to regional and international security.

He added that "Israel" tried to convince international public opinion that the Gaza Strip was a base for terrorism and did not refrain from killing civilians, attacking UN agencies and using illegitimate weapons.
"Israel" did not respond to any international resolutions, especially relating to the International Court of Justice, and it did not respect the truce agreement signed in 1948 or international forces, he noted.

"If UN resolutions had been implemented, many wars would have been prevented," he said.
He called for holding "Israeli" leaders accountable for all military attacks.
Berri said that "Israel" still occupies Lebanese territory, including the (occupied) Shibaa Farms and Kfar Shouba Hills, in violation of UN Security Council Resolution 1559.

He also said that "Israel" was not committed to UNSCR 1701 because it violated Lebanon's sovereignty by its airspace violations.
"Our nation is disappointed about the inability of the international community to place limits on ‘Israel'," he added.

Berri called for acknowledging the Palestinians' right to return to their homeland and for "Israel" to withdraw from Gaza and all occupied Lebanese territories.
"Only when these issues are implemented will the UN regain its important role," he concluded.
