Syrian FM: Syria-Iran Relations Have Become a Role Model in All Fields

Syrian caretaker Foreign Minister Faisal Mikdad met on Thursday with the Chairman of the National Security and Foreign Policy Committee at the Iranian Shura Council Vahid Jalalzadeh, and an accompanying delegation.

Talks during the meeting dealt with bilateral relations between the two countries and means of developing and boosting them in various fields in a way that enhances their capabilities to face challenges.

Mikdad referred to the Syrians’ pride in the important role played by the friendly country of Iran as the leadership, government, representatives and people in supporting Syria’s resistance and enhancing its capabilities in the face of the terrorist war that was imposed on it, affirming  that Syrian-Iranian relations have become a role model in all fields.

The Syrian minister further reiterated his country’s support for Iran in the face of all attempts to undermine its achievements since the victory of the Islamic Revolution, expressing the Syrians’ confidence in Iran’s ability to overcome the imposed difficulties economically, as well as supporting its stances and policies regarding the nuclear file.

Jalalzadeh, for his part, stressed that relations between Syria and Iran date back to years before the war on Syria, and that these relations have always been based on cooperation, coordination and exchanged support in various domains.

He added that the exchange of visits and coordination between the Shura Council and the People’s Assembly has a major role in boosting this cooperation and promoting the level of relations between the two nations.

In a press statement following the meeting, Jalalzadeh described the meetings with the Syrian officials as constructive that aim to promote relations forwards, expand economic and trade cooperation, and contribute to rebuilding and activating agreements between the two countries.

He described as “deep and historic” the relations between Syria and Iran, referring to the need for enhancing cooperation between the two countries in the interests of the two peoples.
