The Lebanese Health Ministry announced on Sunday that the country has registered 31 new coronavirus-related deaths and 2,213 cases in the last 24 hours, as the country prepared to tighten restrictions for the holy month of Ramadan.

The total number of cases since the virus was first detected in the country on Feb. 21, 2020, rose to 496,846, according to figures released by the Health Ministry. The total number of fatalities now stands at 6,661.

The Health Ministry announced over the weekend the arrival of 46,800 vaccine jabs from Pfizer, taking the total number of shots Lebanon has received from the American manufacturer to 343,980.

Meanwhile, Lebanon Monday will start new restrictions for Ramadan. Curfew hours will be between 9:30 p.m. and 5 a.m. with supermarkets, pharmacies and delivery services allowed to operate around the clock.

Restaurants will be allowed to open at 50 percent capacity.

Ramadan tents, vendors and feasts will be banned. Organizations and charities that plan on distributing food boxes and aid are required to get a permit from the Interior Ministry.

Mosques will be allowed to open at 30-percent intake capacity. Religious officials are required to ensure that virus prevention measures are implemented.
