Lebanon registered 55 new coronavirus-related deaths and 3,588 more cases in the last 24 hours, the Health Ministry said Friday, as the country prepares for a further easing of lockdown restrictions.

The cases were detected among 21,062 tests, with only two cases found among travelers arriving at Beirut International Airport. The positivity rate throughout the last two weeks stood at 17.8 percent.

The total number of cases since the virus was first detected in the country on Feb. 21, 2020 rose to 434,322, according to figures released by the Health Ministry. The total number of fatalities now stands at 5,664.

The statistics provided by the Health Ministry also show that 2,364 patients are currently hospitalized for COVID-19 and related complications, with 949 in the ICU and 303 requiring ventilators.

The Health Ministry said 2,256 people Friday received their first dose of the vaccine and 4,864 their second. The total number of people who have received one dose is 104,517, and the total number of second dose vaccines administered since the Feb.14 inoculation stands at 36,967.

Lebanon plans to fully ease coronavirus restrictions Monday, as restaurants, coffee shops, gyms and indoor pools, among other businesses, are set to reopen in the last lockdown phase.
