Iraqi Popular Mobilization Units [PMU], better known with the Arabic name of Hashd al-Shaabi, thwarted a Daesh [the Arabic acronym for terrorist ‘ISIS/ISIL’ group] attack south of the city of Samarra in Saladin province.

According to a report by Al Sumaria, the Iraqi resistance forces in their latest counter-terrorism operation managed to repel the attack of Daesh elements in the province of Saladin in central Iraq.

Daesh terrorists were trying to enter the southern city of Samarra in Saladin province but were met with vigilance and timely response of the Popular Mobilization Units.

Intense clashes took place between the two sides in the area, and eventually, the Iraqi anti-terror forces succeeded in thwarting their attack.

Meanwhile, the PMUs discovered and destroyed a number of tunnels belonging to the terror outfit in northern parts of Babil province in a large-scale operation on Sunday.

Following the liberation of Mosul in July 2017 and the end of the proclaimed caliphate of Daesh, many terrorists hid in Iraqi provinces, especially Diyala, Kirkuk, Saladin, Al Anbar, and Nineveh, which have suitable geographical conditions for operations. They have carried out various terrorist attacks over the past year.
