Lebanon Monday registered 47 new coronavirus-related deaths and 1,541 more cases, as the country began the second week of its vaccination drive.

The cases were detected among 7,473 tests, with only nine cases recorded among travelers arriving from abroad. The positivity rate of the tests in the last two weeks stood at 18.1 percent.

The total number of cases since the virus was first detected in the country on Feb. 21, 2020, rose to 356,597, according to the Health Ministry. The total number of fatalities stands at 4,387.

The Health Ministry said 2,226 patients were in hospital for COVID-19, with 941 in ICUs and 311 on ventilators.

According to caretaker Health Minister Hamad Hasan around 25,000 people were vaccinated during the first week of the inoculation drive. Lebanon has so far received two shipments of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine containing around 60,000 jabs. So far, 25 hospitals are administering the vaccine, but that number will increase over time.
