Lebanon Friday registered 51 new coronavirus-related deaths and 2,255 more cases, as the vaccination drive continued.

The cases were detected among 14,511 tests, with only eight cases recorded among travelers arriving from abroad. The positivity rate of the tests in the last two weeks stood at 18.7 percent.

The total number of cases since the virus was first detected in the country in late February 2020 rose to 351,048, according to the Health Ministry. The total number of fatalities stands at 4,257.

The Health Ministry said 2,193 patients were in hospital for COVID-19, with 922 in ICUs and 292 on ventilators.

Lebanon launched its national vaccination program Sunday as it received its first shipment of the coronavirus vaccine Saturday containing around 28,500 jabs of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine with another 31,000 doses slated to arrive this weekend.
