Lebanon Registers 2,730 New Coronavirus Cases, 54 More Deaths

Lebanon Thursday registered 2,730 new coronavirus cases and 54 more related deaths.

The cases were detected among 14,901 tests, with only nine cases recorded among travelers arriving from abroad. The positivity rate of the tests in the last two weeks stood at 19.1 percent.

The total number of cases since the virus was first detected in the country in late February 2020 rose to 348,793, according to the Health Ministry. The total number of fatalities stands at 4,206.

The Health Ministry said 2,195 patients were in hospital for COVID-19, with 918 in ICUs and 289 on ventilators.

Lebanon launched its national vaccination program Sunday.

Lebanon received its first shipment of the coronavirus vaccine Saturday containing around 28,500 jabs of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine with another 31,000 doses slated to arrive this weekend.
