Macron Offers to Mediate between US, Iran
By Staff, Agencies
French President Emmanuel Macron offered on Thursday to mediate in the talks between the United States and Iran on revitalizing the 2015 nuclear accord.
"I will do whatever I can to support any initiative from the US side to re-engage in a demanding dialogue," Macron said.
In his remarks for the Atlantic Council think-tank, he offered himself as an "honest and committed broker in this dialogue."
The statement came just moments before US President Joe Biden was to hold a speech outlining his approach to foreign policy.
Iran's nuclear ambitions are expected to be one of the major issues on the agenda in Biden's term, with the new administration voicing willingness to rejoin the 2015 deal.
Biden's predecessor, former President Donald Trump, pulled the US out of the accord in 2018.
