The Leader of the Islamic Revolution has met with Iran's top military officials amid escalating war rhetoric against the country.
"Today Iran has established its position as a key regional player so that even the enemy has been forced to acknowledge the extent of its power," Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei told military commanders and their deputies on Wednesday.
The meeting comes as earlier on Tuesday "Israeli" Prime Minister Ehud Olmert rejected an earlier report by Time which suggested that Washington had expressed its opposition to an "Israeli" military strike on Iran before President-elect Barack Obama takes office in January.
The outgoing premier said Washington had not rejected a request by Tel Aviv to take any action it deems "necessary" against Iran, adding that the two sides shared "deep understanding about the Iranian threat and the need to act in order to remove the threat."
As speculation has been rife about an impending "Israeli" attack on Iran, Ayatollah Khamenei cautioned that the Iranian military would demonstrate its full capabilities in the event of an attack on the country.
