The Iranian Defense Ministry on Thursday inaugurated a factory manufacturing strategic electronics and telecommunication equipment.

Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Major General Mohammad Hossein Baqeri and Defense Minister Brigadier General Amir Hatami attended the opening ceremony.

Describing the new factory as one of the largest and most advanced industrial units in Iran, Hatami said it has the capacity to manufacture more than 10,000 various electronic and telecommunication devices monthly.

The new factory that produces all types of electronic circuit boards with homegrown technologies has been set up under the tough pressure of sanctions, the minister added.

Hatami said the new factory would not only fulfill the needs of the Iranian Armed Forces and other industrial sectors, but would also turn Iran into a major manufacturer and exporter of advanced equipment in the field of information and communications technology.

In a message in commemoration of the National Day of Defense Industry in August, the Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces described the defense industry as a robust and reliable backing for the Armed Forces in protecting the country’s independence and territorial integrity.

Lauding the local defense sector for gaining self-sufficiency in the production of various modern military equipment, from fighter jets to submarines, Major General Baqeri said the defense industry has become an inspiring model for progress in the other production sectors, especially the economic sector and industry.
