Lebanon registered 1,163 new coronavirus cases and 11 more deaths Sunday, as a full lockdown emptied streets across Lebanon.

The total number of cases registered in Lebanon stands at 105,430, with a total of 817 deaths due to virus complications.

A total of 7,788 PCR tests have been administered in the last 24 hours. The average positivity rate of the tests in the last two weeks stood at a high 14.6 percent, according to the Health Ministry’s report. Currently, 314 coronavirus patients are in critical condition.

Lebanon Saturday entered its second full lockdown since the virus was first detected in February which is set to last until Nov. 30.

Authorities hope that the upcoming lockdown will slow the spread of the virus and relieve weary hospitals and medical staff who are under immense pressure as ICUs reach capacity.

Lebanon’s total registered coronavirus cases topped 100,000 this week. Daily cases have consistently exceeded the 1,000 mark over the last month.

Streets around Lebanon looked completely empty Sunday as no cars are allowed to drive on that day. However the Internal Security Forces reported that the lockdown was not fully respected by some people who were consequently fined. The ISF said it issued 3,945 fines on Saturday, the first day of the lockdown.

Restaurants, while allowed to send out food deliveries during the week, are banned from opening up on Sundays, according to the Interior Ministry guidelines for this lockdown period.
