Lebanon will extend its night curfew from 5 p.m. to 5 a.m. starting Nov. 14, the Interior Ministry announced Thursday. The curfew will be implemented for the duration of the two-week lockdown, expected to end Nov. 30, to stem an unprecedented surge of coronavirus cases in the country.

In a statement detailing lockdown measures, the Interior Ministry said that the odd and even license plate rule will also be reinstated.

Vehicles whose license plate ends with an even number or zero are allowed to operate Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, only. License plates ending in an odd number may be driven Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. All driving will be banned Sundays.

Grocery stores will be permitted to operate from 5 a.m. to 5 p.m. Restaurants will be permitted to operate between the hours of 5 a.m. to 5 p.m. for delivery to customers outside of establishments only. Bakeries will be permitted to operate for 24 hours.

Gyms, malls, restaurants, bars, cafes and nightclubs will be ordered to close to the public. Beaches and public pools will also close.

Travelers arriving or departing from Rafik Hariri International Airport will be permitted transport to and from the airport, which will remain open.

Lebanon recorded 1,922 new coronavirus cases and 14 deaths Wednesday. Total registered cases in the country are expected to pass 100,000 by the end of the day.
