Lebanese Speaker: New Government to Be Formed Imminently
By Staff, Agencies
The new Lebanese government could be formed in four or five days if the positive atmosphere persisted, House Speaker Nabih Berri said on Wednesday.
On the border talks held in Naqoura, Berri explained that such negotiations only aimed to clinch Lebanon’s rights to invest in its resources, renewing rejection that such talks lead to the normalization of ties with the ‘Israeli’ enemy.
“I am upbeat about the future of Lebanon thanks to the enormous oil wealth it contains in its waters,” Berri said.
“The most important thing is not to give up, and to start the rescue process through fighting corruption and resuming the implementation of reform laws,” he added.
Tackling the regional situation, Berri expressed fear of a division scheme he deemed worse than the Sykes-Picot Agreement.
