Saeb Erekat, Secretary-General of the Palestine Liberation Organization [PLO], is now in a critical condition after testing positive for COVID-19, an ‘Israeli’ hospital said Monday.

According to Monday's statement by the Hadassah Ein Kerem Medical Center in occupied al-Quds, where Erekat is being treated, his condition has worsened.

The hospital said the PLO chief was still stable at night, but in the morning, his condition worsened.

Erekat is now on sedatives and has been put on an artificial lung ventilator due to his respiratory problems, the hospital said.

According to the medical center, the 65-year-old PLO chief represents a difficult case as he has a lung transplant, resulting in a weakened immune system, and is fighting a bacterial infection as well as COVID-19.

Erekat tested positive for COVID-19 on October 8 and was quarantined in his home in the occupied West Bank.

On Sunday, as his condition deteriorated, Erekat was urgently transported to the Hadassah Ein Kerem Medical Center.
