Several US Republican Party [GOP] members, including John Kasich, ex-Ohio governor who sought Republican nomination in 2016, came out Tuesday with messages against US President Donald Trump's reelection on the first night of the Democratic National Convention [DNC].

On the same list were former eBay CEO Meg Whitman, ex-New Jersey Governor Christine Whitman and ex-Representative from New York Susan Molinari.

The opening night of the Democrat National Convention also featured addresses from high-profile Democrats, including Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders and former first lady Michelle Obama.

Obama ripped into Trump over the "chaos, division and a total and utter lack of empathy" which she said came out of the White House every time Americans looked up to it for leadership.

Condemning Trump, Michelle Obama did not refer to Joe Biden's Vice President pick, Kamala Harris, even once; according to Fox News, her address had been recorded before Harris was selected as the running mate.

With three more nights to go, the convention will wrap up with Joe Biden's speech accepting the party's nomination to run against Donald Trump in the November 3 vote.

This year's event has been dramatically scaled-down and is held online due to concerns over the COVID-19 coronavirus, with some 5,612,027 confirmed cases in the US.

Next week, it would be the GOP's turn to hand the banner to the incumbent leader as he fights for re-election in a similarly scaled-down digital event.
