Lebanon Sunday registered a record 439 new coronavirus cases and six new fatalities that raise the death toll to 103 as the country’s health care system grows overwhelmed.

Of the new cases, 395 were detected among the local population and 44 from incoming travelers.

UNRWA Sunday announced that four Palestinian refugees had died as a result of COVID-19 over the previous 24 hours.

A total of 6,364 PCR tests were also administered during the same period.

The biggest concentration of cases was in Beirut, with 62 infections.

Lebanon’s health care system was already starting to get overwhelmed with an upward trend in coronavirus cases being recorded in July. However, the number of new cases started increasing at an accelerated rate in August, after the Beirut Port blast last week.

The World Health Organization said Saturday that around 30 percent of cases do not have a well-defined source of infection.
