Former US National Security Adviser John Bolton described President Donald Trump as an "immoral president", who is focused on everything that helps him get re-elected for a second term.

"Well, I think he is an immoral president who focuses on the things that help him get re-elect without necessarily focusing on what is best for the United States," Bolton said in an interview with the Spanish El Pais newspaper on Monday.

Bolton went on to say: "I explained to him dozens of times that the Korean peninsula was divided in 1945, but he never remembered it. In other cases, it was not possible to interfere, for example, when he asked [former UK Prime Minister] Theresa May: ‘Does her country really have nuclear weapons?’”

“In those cases you just want the conversation to drift away,” Bolton said.

He added: "A lot of people already know that Trump knows little about history and has no interest in learning it."

Earlier this year, Bolton published his bombshell book, “The Room Where It Happened” in which he discussed details of policymaking in the White House for the past year and a half.
