Britain, France and Germany announced Friday they will not back Washington’s efforts to reimpose UN sanctions on Iran, as they remain committed to the 2015 nuclear deal, according to Reuters.

“We firmly believe that any unilateral attempt to trigger UN sanctions snapback would have serious adverse consequences in the UN Security Council,” the European countries’ three foreign ministers said in a joint statement as cited by Reuters.

“We would not support such a decision, which would be incompatible with our current efforts to preserve the [Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action] JCPOA,” they added following a meeting in Berlin that focused on Iran.

However, the statement did mention it supports US efforts to extend the arms embargo on Tehran which is set to gradually expire in October.

"We believe that the planned lifting of the UN conventional arms embargo established by Resolution 2231 next October would have major implications for regional security and stability," the joint statement read.
