A petition, “Stop the Sanctions on Syria”, to the United Nations has been released online. It has acquired 19,604 signatures to-date.

The petition calls for the halt of sanctions on Syria, it reads, “An urgent human call to all parties in charge of stopping the sanctions on Syria”.

“Syrian people have suffered enough for the last nine years during the top violent and aggressive war ever,” the petition explains, adding that, “Death has spread its wings over the lives of innocent people, we are calling for help and mercy on behalf of our families back in Syria”.

Furthermore, the petition highlights that “survival” is the “biggest issue” facing the Syrians and it “can't be fulfilled without stopping the sanctions on Syria”.

The petition concluded, “We are calling for justice, fair and hope”.

Syria and its regional allies had been targeted by US sanctions which would come into effect in the United States as part of the so-called Caesar Act, an American piece of legislation which alleges to support the Syrian people by protecting them against the Syrian administration’s way of governance.

For its part, Syria has lambasted the US for practicing “economic terrorism”, saying the new financial sanctions that Washington is due to impose this month will intensify the sufferings of the Syrian people.
