US President Donald Trump’s approval rating is dropping to dangerous territory as Americans increasingly disapprove his handling of the coronavirus outbreak, according to a pair of new political surveys.

A Fox News poll released on Thursday shows Trump’s overall approval rating now at 44 percent, down from 49 percent in April and 48 percent in March. The poll shows the public’s approval of Trump’s handling of the coronavirus at 43 percent, a decline from 51 percent in March and April.

The same survey also finds Trump trailing presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden by 8 points nationally. The Republican president and his Democratic rival were tied in a Fox News poll conducted in April.

And an ABC News/Ispos poll out Friday shows that only 39 percent of Americans approve of Trump’s handling of the coronavirus, the lowest percentage for the president since the poll began tracking it in March.

The latest survey shows Trump’s underwater approval hitting a new low, as the country is as uneasy as ever about contracting the disease.

The two polls provide a sobering glimpse at the president's popularity in the middle of the coronavirus pandemic and a bleak outlook for his re-election chances in the November presidential election.

Trump’s approval rating is worse than the last Democratic and Republican presidents to win re-election.

The United States has the world’s highest coronavirus death toll and infections, with more than 1.6 million confirmed cases and over 95,000 deaths as of Saturday morning.
