The family of prominent cleric Sheikh Mirza Al-Mahroos who is detained in the notorious Jaw Prison expressed deep concern for the Sheikh’s safety, after his health deteriorated and Bahraini regime authorities prevented him from undergoing an emergency surgery.

Sheikh al-Mahroos’ family said that they received a call from the Sheikh on Sunday May 3, informing them of the further deterioration of his health condition as a result of suffering from Irritable Bowel Syndrome, and that the medications he uses are no longer beneficial to him.

The family added that Sheikh al-Mahroos reiterated his need for urgent surgery based on the specialist doctor’s diagnosis, and revealed that the administration of the Jaw Central Prison deliberately refused to transfer him to the hospital.

Sheikh Mirza al-Mahroos has gone on hunger strike several times to protest the prison administration’s delay in his medical treatment and denying him medication and the necessary health care, in light of his ongoing colon disease and severe chronic bleeding.
