By Staff, Agencies
The global total of infections climbed over 3 million, more than half of which are in Europe.
Approximately 211,216 people have now died around the world of COVID-19 coronavirus, according to the Johns Hopkins University tracker.
Nearly 55,000 people have died in the United States, with its epicenter in New York state.
After the US, the countries reporting the most deaths are Italy with 26,644 followed by Spain with 23,190 and France with 22,856.
As the number of cases seem to be subsiding, a debate is raging throughout numerous countries about when is the most appropriate and safest time to emerge from lockdown. 'Israel' began opening more of its stores on April 26 - although the country will return to a strict lockdown for its Remembrance Day on April 28 and Independence Day on April 29, to prevent large crowds gathering and risk the spread of infection.
In the United States, openings are occurring on a state-by-state basis, with governors deciding along with others what measures need to be put in place to allow for economic reopening.
