Iraqi Popular Mobilization Units [Hashd al-Shaabi] repelled and fought several attacks from Daesh [the Arabic acronym for terrorist ‘ISIS/ISIL’ group] on different axes which targeted different security points in Samarraa.

The areas targeted by Daesh terrorists, added to the holy city of Samarraa, are Yathreb, Tal al-Dhahab, Mukeishifah, Mutaibijah and al-Dor, the Hashd media reported via its official Twitter account.

In response, the Iraqi resistance group’s Kornet missiles targeted a pickup carrying a group of Daesh terrorists who attempted to target the Iraqi security checkpoints in Mukeishifah.

Relatively, the multiple attacks resulted in 11 martyrs from the Hashd fighters in Salahuddin province.

The attack in the province just north of the capital Baghdad was one of the largest Daesh attacks since the terrorist group was defeated in December 2017.

The final casualty count on Daesh side remains unknown.

The Iraqi forces and PMUs are now taking control of the situation, pushing back the Takfiri militants.

The government has also sent reinforcement to supplement efforts and prepare for possible retaliatory attacks.

Daesh has intensified its attacks in Iraq amid Baghdad’s call on the US to pull out its forces from the Arab country.

In a vote on January 5, the Iraqi parliament called for an end to the presence of all foreign troops, including Americans.
