Lebanon's most senior Shia religious authority, Sayyed Mohammad Hussein Fadlallah, said on Monday that "Israeli" threats against Lebanon had not subsided, and he urged the people of Lebanon to protect their country against outsiders seeking to destroy it.
""Israeli" threats occur along two levels: the first is "Israel's" fear that the Resistance will execute an operation against the enemy, and the second is "Israel's" resentment of Lebanon's readiness to confront any possible "Israeli" aggression ... especially after the failures sustained during the attacks of July, 2006," Fadlallah said during a meeting with Hizbullah Deputy Secretary General Sheikh Naim Qassem.
Fadlallah called for more focus on domestic affairs, such as promoting an atmosphere of reconciliation, which, he said, would enhance Lebanese resilience against possible "Israeli" aggression. "We should consolidate the internal atmosphere of understanding on all levels, especially in the run-up to parliamentary elections," he said.
Fadlallah called on the Lebanese to take advantage of local, regional and international developments to improve Lebanon's domestic situation and bolster the country against foreign attempts to incite chaos.
