Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin has taken a shot at the press, saying she expects the media to be truthful and fair.

"I have a journalism degree, so I know how you guys work," said the Alaska governor in a Friday interview with Fox News.

Palin, who had been severely criticized by mainstream media over the small number of interviews she conducted, has yet to give a press conference.

Until her above-expectation performance at the vice presidential debate on Thursday, pundits had questioned whether she was qualified to run the United States.

In an interview with CBS' Katie Couric, perhaps her most remarkable appearance, Gov. Palin appeared barely intelligible on relatively trivial economic and foreign policy matters.

In her interview with Fox, Gov. Palin said she had committed herself to 'not being annoyed and impatient with mainstream media'.

"I will make that commitment because I do understand that that is how I speak to the American people in a position like this. I speak to you and through you and that way, that message is received by American people," she said.

The 44-year-old Palin, who could be one seventy-two-year-old heartbeat away from presidency, said American soldiers are sent to war zones 'to fight for democracy and freedoms, including freedom of the press'.

"With fighting for the freedom of the press and then the press, though, not taking advantage of that, and exploiting a situation that perhaps that they would want to capture and abuse the privilege," she added.

"We just want truth, we want fairness. We want that balance," she concluded.
