Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council [SNSC] Rear Admiral Ali Shamkhani underlined the role that the Islamic Revolution Guard Corps [IRGC] plays in strengthening the Islamic Revolution and the Islamic Establishment and in confronting crises.

In a message released on Saturday, Shamkhani congratulated the IRGC on the birthday anniversary of Imam Hussein [AS], the third Shia Imam, which marks the IRGC Day in Iran.

“The passage of time and the tests the IRGC [has successfully passed] in the face of crises have shown that this divine institution is the main basis of the Islamic Revolution and the Establishment’s growing power in confrontation with crises,” he wrote in the message.

The IRGC force’s purity of intention, faith and power originate from taking Imam Hussein [AS] as example, Shamkhani added.

The IRGC was established after the 1979 Islamic Revolution in Iran to defend the country against foreign threats and to safeguard the values and accomplishments of the revolution.

According to Article 150 of the Iranian Constitution, “The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps, organized in the early days of the triumph of the Revolution [1979], is to be maintained so that it may continue in its role of guarding the Revolution and its achievements. The scope of the duties of this Corps, and its areas of responsibility, in relation to the duties and areas of responsibility of the other Armed Forces, are to be determined by law with emphasis on brotherly cooperation and harmony among them.”
