Islamic Revolution Guard Corps Chief Commander Major General Hossein Salami appointed a new deputy commander for the IRGC’s Quds Force on Monday.

In a ceremony held in the IRGC headquarters in Tehran, Brigadier General Mohammad Hejazi was handed the decree signed by IRGC chief.

The event was attended by top military commanders, and it aimed to commemorate Martyr Qassem Soleimani and introduce the new Quds Force Chief Brigadier General Esmail Gha'ani who was appointed to the post by Leader of the Islamic Revolution His Eminence Imam Sayyed Ali Khamenei back on January 3.

Gha’ani served as deputy chief of the IRGC Quds Force for years.

He replaced the Lieutenant General Qassem Soleimani, who was assassinated on January 3 by a US airstrike in Iraq. The attack was ordered by US President Donald Trump.

In the early hours of January 8, the IRGC attacked the US airbase of Ain al-Assad in Anbar province in western Iraq as part of its promised “harsh revenge” for the US terror attack.
