Imam Khamenei Orders Iran Armed Forces to Probe into Plane Crash

Imam Khamenei ordered the Iranian Armed Forces to hold an inquiry about the faults and shortcomings that resulted in the unintentional downing of a Ukrainian passenger plane by the IRGC’s air defense.

Leader of the Islamic Revolution His Eminence Imam Sayyed Ali Khamenei checked on Friday the results of investigations related to the Ukrainian plane crash and ordered an urgent meeting for Iran's National Security Council.

The National Security Council assembled on the same day and decided to announce on Saturday morning that the Ukrainian plane was downed unintentionally by a human error.

Imam Khamenei ordered the Iranian officials to announce the results of investigation related to the incident honestly and transparently.

Later on Saturday, Imam Khamenei expressed that after examining the results of the General Staff Committee regarding the Ukrainian plane crash, and after proving a human error, for me, it was harder than the calamity of the death of passengers in this tragic incident

On his Arabic official Twitter account, His Eminence was cited as saying: “In the first place, I find it a must to express condolences and solidarity with the families of those dear [victims] again, and I pray for their relief and hearty and spiritual serenity.”

In another tweet, Imam Khamenei said: “Secondly, I stress that the Armed Forces’ General Staff Committee follow up this possible negligence in this painful incident.”

Thirdly, he added, “I request that the concerned managers and officials be careful and make the necessary follow-up to end the possibility of repeating such catastrophe.”
