At least three people have been wounded after a knife-wielding assailant attacked them on a shopping street in The Hague, the Dutch police say.

The “stabbing incident” occurred at “the Grote Marktstraat”, one of the main shopping streets in the center of The Hague, in the Netherlands, on Friday night, the city's police said on Twitter, adding that emergency services were on the crime scene.

Police said in a separate message that they were hunting a “slightly dark-skinned” male suspect, aged 45-50, who was wearing a shawl, a black jacket and a gray tracksuit, while describing him with a Dutch term often applied to people of North African descent.

The shopping area, at the time of the attack, was busy with people looking for Black Friday deals. Now, the area, which is near the city’s historic center, is cordoned off and dozens of police and ambulances are on the scene, not far from parliament.

According to police spokeswoman Marije Kuiper, it was not clear whether the stabbing attack was a terrorist one.

The European cities are already on alert after a suspected terror-relating stabbing attack killed two people on London Bridge, hours before the attack in The Hague.

Unlike the assailant in the Dutch city who is still at large, the suspected attacker in London was shot dead.
