Lebanese Parliament Speaker Says Upcoming Gov’t Must Be Techno-Political
By Staff, Agencies
Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri said the upcoming government must be techno-political in nature, irrelevant if politicians outnumber the specialists or not, in remarks published Wednesday by local daily Al-Joumhouria.
“There must be a techno-political government. A technocratic government is not likely to happen ... it does not matter if the politicians' ratio is more or less than specialists. What is important is that a government is formed and works to save the country,” Berri said.
Saad Hariri resigned from his post as premier on Oct. 29 under street pressure following the massive protests that started on the 17th of last month, bringing down the government with him. He and his Cabinet are currently serving in a caretaker capacity.
Meanwhile, Lebanese President Michel Aoun is yet to set a date for the constitutionally required consultations with lawmakers to designate a new prime minister.
