Kuwait Gov’t Resigns, Emir Says No Intention of Dissolving Parliament

Kuwait’s prime minister has submitted the resignation of his government to the Gulf Arab state’s ruler, a government spokesman said in a statement on Thursday.

Meanwhile, the Emir of Kuwait, Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmad al-Sabah, said he has no intention of dissolving parliament, the parliament speaker Marzouq Ali al-Ghanim said, in a report carried by state news agency KUNA.

Al-Ghanim said he had addressed on Wednesday a “message to the political leadership regarding his opinion, along with views of a number of MPs that the problem lies in the lack of harmony among the members of the government team”.

Cabinet resignations in Kuwait happen frequently when elected lawmakers are set to question or submit a no-confidence vote against senior government officials.
