Yemen’s Health Minister Declares Internal State of Emergency to Combat Vectors of Dengue, Malaria

Yemen’s Health Minister Dr. Taha al-Mutawakil announced an internal state of emergency to combat vectors of dengue and malaria patients in al-Hudaydah, Saada, Ibb, Hajjah, al-Muhwait, Taiz and parts of Raymah.
The dengue cases in the country hit around 116,000 cases in 2019 alone.
Meanwhile, the spokesman for the ministry, Dr. Youssef Al-Hadhri, said that "this step comes after the outbreak of the two diseases. It aims to mobilize efforts, energies and resources to combat the two diseases, as well as filling the breeding spots of mosquitoes, which are mostly man-made resulting from wrong daily behaviors resulting from poor level of awareness."
He added that "this step and other steps come within the directives of the President of the Supreme Political Council Mahdi Al-Mashat to the government to quickly combat epidemics in the province of al-Hudaydah, especially as the rainy season falls, which is widespread epidemics."
